1. The service
Living Books lets you read interactive books and travel logs with maps, timelines and documents, and lets authors write and publish their own. By creating an account you accept these terms.
2. Your account
Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 16 years old, or have a parent's permission.
3. Your content
You keep full ownership of everything you write, record or upload. You give Living Books only the permission needed to store and show it to the readers you choose. Only publish material you have the right to share, and respect other people's privacy in photos and recordings.
4. Publishing and author payments
Free publications carry no platform fee. Paid-publication commission depends on the author's cumulative book sales: 10% through 20 sales, 7% from 21–50, 5% from 51–250, 3% from 251–2,500, and 2% above 2,500. Payment-provider fees are separate. Author sale checkout remains unavailable until payouts and purchase access are verified. Every publication requires human editorial approval; paying does not guarantee approval or publish it automatically.
5. One-off conversion and AI
Reading and writing without AI remain free. Book conversion costs €3.99 once for the chapters saved at purchase, extracting places, dates and passage anchors. Results are stored for reuse; reading does not trigger AI charges. Public-domain editions may be shared freely after rights checks and editorial approval. Authors retain ownership and their chosen free or paid access: conversion does not buy rights to their work. The pass does not include unlimited ongoing voice transcription, captions or rewriting. A small free AI sample remains available. The fee covers AI and running costs. AI is optional, off by default, and may make mistakes; review all output.
6. Cancellation and refunds
The conversion pass is a one-off purchase, with no recurring subscription to cancel. Contact the administrator about a failed or unused conversion or a refund; applicable consumer rights remain unaffected. Existing paid plans remain valid through their agreed end dates, with pro-rata refunds of unused paid time on cancellation. No new monthly plans are offered. Your content is kept when legacy access expires.
7. Your data
You can download all your data at any time from your profile, and close your account whenever you wish. Closing deletes your profile, publications, uploads and notes permanently.
8. Acceptable use and author responsibility
Racist or hateful material, abusive content, incitement to violence, illegal copying and plagiarism are prohibited. Content authors are solely responsible for their material and confirming the necessary rights. AI policy scans assist editors but cannot establish originality or legality. Editors make the final publication decision and may request changes through in-site notifications. Do not attempt to access private books or data. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
9. Changes and liability
The service is provided as is. We may update these terms and will announce important changes in the app. Our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months, as far as the law allows.
